The Henderson Investors Seniors Pot Black 1997 was a one-off special format of the Pot Black Cup , which was held in March 1997 as part of the 1996/97 season as a snooker invitation tournament at Goodwood House in Chichester , England and was attended by numerous former top players of the 1970s and 1980s as a field of participants included. The winner was the 1986 world champion Joe Johnson , who defeated the 1979 world champion Terry Griffiths 2-0 in the final by frames . Johnson also played the tournament's highest break with a 57 break. The tournament games were shown on television between March 3 and March 14, 1997.
Tournament course
As with normal Pot Black , all games up to and including the semi-finals were decided within a single frame, only the final lasted a maximum of three frames. Eight players played in a first round to get into the quarter-finals, where the rest of the field also joined the four wins from the first round. The tournament winner was finally decided in the knockout system .

In the final, Joe Johnson and Terry Griffiths, two former world champions, met each other. While Johnson was still active, Griffiths ended his professional career at the end of the 1996/97 season, so that he reached the final in both his second professional tournament (1979 World Cup) and his penultimate professional tournament. However, this time Griffiths lost when Johnson won the two necessary frames with 85:32 and 70:17.
