final

In the final, Joe Johnson and Terry Griffiths, two former world champions, met each other. While Johnson was still active, Griffiths ended his professional career at the end of the 1996/97 season, so that he reached the final in both his second professional tournament (1979 World Cup) and his penultimate professional tournament. However, this time Griffiths lost when Johnson won the two necessary frames with 85:32 and 70:17.
