Sentinel Buttress ( English for Guardian Pillar ) is a 535 m high ledge on the West Antarctic James Ross Island . It rises to the east of the Nunatak palisade at the head of the Röhss Bay . A special feature of the formation is a volcanic breccia layer .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it that way in 1987 because it is the dominant geographic feature in the area.
