Seo Taiji and Boys ( kor. 서태지와 아이들 ; also called Taiji Boys for short ) were a three - piece K-pop band from South Korea .

history

After the breakup of the South Korean metal band Sinawe , where Seo Taiji played as bass player, he founded his own band in 1992, called Seo Taiji and Boys . He teamed up with the dancers Yang Hyun-suk and Lee Ju-no , whom he met when he wanted to learn to dance from them. The theme song of their first album Seo Taiji & Boys was called Nan Arayo ( 난 알아요 ) and was a great success. The band fused elements of rock , hip-hop and breakdance with K-pop . She recorded four studio albums. Next to Nan Arayo , Come Back Home was one of their biggest hits. The band broke up in 1996 after just four years. Seo became a successful solo artist after retiring to the United States for a few years . Yang became a very successful businessman in the entertainment industry and is the founder and head of YG Entertainment , one of South Korea's three major labels . Lee also became a producer of pop groups such as Young Turks Club . Due to the great success of the band, the pop music market in South Korea had changed significantly and has since focused more on a younger target audience. As a result of the success of Seo Taiji and Boys, the music labels developed K-pop groups with young members such as HOT , Sechs Kies , Fin.KL and Shinhwa .
