YG Entertainment is a South Korean companies in the entertainment industry and record label .

history

YG Entertainment was founded in 1996 by Yang Hyun-suk and his brother Yang Min-suk. Since July 2011, the record company has been cooperating with the Japanese record company giant Avex . Together they founded the Avex sub-label YGEX . This markets artists from YG Entertainment in Japan.

Artists who are under contract with YG Entertainment are currently among the most successful musicians in the world. At the end of 2011, Big Bang beat Lena Meyer-Landrut and Britney Spears and won an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Worldwide Act . In 2012, Psy won an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Video with his Youtube hit Gangnam Style . Since the music video was released in July 2012, YG Entertainment's share value has increased by more than 50 percent.

In 2018, YG produced the web series YG Future Strategy Office together with Netflix .

On June 14, 2019, after several public scandals involving the agency's artists, Yang Hyun-suk announced that he was stepping down from all positions in the company with immediate effect. Shortly thereafter, Yang Min-suk resigned as CEO of YG Entertainment. A few days later, on June 20, 2019, Hwang Bo-kyung, the agency's previous managing director, was introduced as the new CEO.
