Lee Seung-hyun ( Korean : 이승현 ; born December 12, 1990 in Gwangju ), better known as Seungri or VI , is a South Korean singer, actor and songwriter. Seungri made his debut in 2006 with the boy band Big Bang . He left Big Bang in March 2019.
Life
Artistic first steps
Seungri's dancing skills were noticed early on. He participated in the Korean TV show Let's Coke Play! Battle Shinhwa , in which he was eliminated in the ninth episode.
Big bang
He was discovered by YG Entertainment through his TV appearances and applied for the new band Big Bang , along with five other singers: TOP , Taeyang , G-Dragon , Daesung , and Hyun-seung . The formation of the band was followed by television in a documentary. Seungri was able to prevail in the trial against Hyun-Seung.
The band's first single sold over 40,000 copies, making their debut a relatively successful one. On Big Bang's first album Since 2007 Seungri recorded his first solo song: "The Next Day" (Korean: 다음날; Revised Romanization: Daeumnal )
In March 2019, Seungri declared that he wanted to retire from show business. The reason is his involvement in the Burning Sun club , which is said to be linked to drug abuse, sexual exploitation and police corruption. Even if he denies the allegations, the scandal is too big to return. This is also done to protect YG Entertainment and its bandmates.
Movies and TV series
Seungri made his first appearance as an actor in the musical Sonagi (2008) before starring in films such as Nineteen (2009) or Why Did You Come To Our Home (2009). He also starred in television dramas such as the Japanese drama Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo (2013) and the South Korean work Angel Eyes (2014). In 2018 he starred in the Netflix series YG - What Comes After the Big Bang?
