Lee Hi ( Korean 이하이 , real name Lee Ha-yi ; born September 23, 1996 in Bucheon , South Korea ) is a South Korean K-pop singer . She became known through her participation in the first season of the SBS television show " K-Pop Star ". Lee Hi’s official fan club name is "Hice Cream".

Career

2012: discovery and debut

From December 2011 to April 2012, the then fifteen-year-old Lee Hi took part in the first season of the SBS television show K-pop Star. There she was able to reach second place behind Park Ji-min and subsequently signed a contract with YG Entertainment . It was originally planned that Lee Hi would become a member of the girl group "SuPearls". The group never debuted, however, and YG Entertainment announced that she would continue as a solo artist. Before her official debut, she recorded the song It's Cold with the hip-hop group Epik High , which reached number 1 on the Gaon Charts .

On October 28th, Lee Hi released her first single 1,2,3,4 . The single rose to number 1 on the charts and was able to defend the place for another two weeks. The second single Scarecrow ( 허수아비 ) was released on November 22nd and made it to number 3 on the charts.

2013: First Love and BOM & HI

On March 7, 2013 First Love was released as a mini-album with 5 songs along with the single It's Over . The mini-album was only available as a download. Three weeks later, on March 28th, First Love was released as a full studio album along with the single Rose .

In December there was a collaboration with Park Bom from 2NE1 . On December 20, the two singers released the single All I Want for Christmas Is You under the name BOM & HI .

2014–2016: Other co-productions and Seoulite

On November 11, 2014, Lee Hi released the single I'm Different ( 나는 달라 ) together with Soo-hyun from Akdong Musician under the name Hi Suhyun . The single made it to number 1 on the charts.

On March 9, 2016, the first half of the new album Seoulite was released together with two singles: Breathe ( 한숨 ) and Hold My Hand ( 손잡아 줘요 ) . Breathe made it to number 1 on all major digital charts and thus achieved an "all-kill". Here, too, half the album was only available as a download. The full album Seoulite was released on April 20th along with the single My Star . Seoulite was initially only available as a download, the CDs hit stores on April 27th.

2017 – today: 24 ° C and end of contract with YG Entertainment

In January 2017 it was announced that Lee Hi was working on a new album with Davey Nate. The comeback was originally planned for September, but has been delayed further and further. On October 25th, YG Entertainment said that Lee Hi was still working on the album and that it would be released in 2017. However, a specific date was not given.

The new album 24 ° C was finally released on May 30, 2019 .

On December 31, 2019, YG Entertainment announced that Lee His contract with the agency had expired and that they had decided not to renew it and to leave the agency.

On July 23, 2020, Lee His new single Holo was released . The day before, the hip-hop label AOMG announced that they had signed a contract with the singer.
