Soompi is one of the largest and oldest English-language websites that provide information on Korean pop culture , especially K-pop and drama . Soompi was a major contributor to English content related to the Korean wave . For example, fans have come together in the Soompi forum to create subtitles for Korean drama series, for example. Soompi is also the forerunner of many stand-alone fan forums about K-pop groups. Soompi now receives a lot of support from the big Korean talent agencies such as JYP , SM or YG Entertainment for various fan specials, for example.

Soompi was founded in 1998 by Korean-American developer Susan Kang. The website quickly reached more and more visitors. In February 2011 Soompi was taken over by the Korean IT company Enswers. A French-language platform was also created for the website in 2011 and a Spanish-language one in 2012.
