Seppeltsfield is a small village in the Barossa Valley , which is near Tanunda in South Australia about 70 km from Adelaide . Seppeltsfield is located in the Local Administrative Area (LGA) Light Regional Council and had 138 residents in 2016. The place was founded by German immigrants of the Lutheran faith in 1851 and is named after its founder Joseph Ernst Seppelt , who immigrated from Silesia . The Seppelt family grew grapes until 1984, pressed wine and built one of the largest wineries in Australia , which today produces around 2 million liters of wine a year. After 1984 the winery went to various buyers and in 2007 it was bought by the Australian beverage company Foster's Group .
