Coordinates: 34 ° 25 ′  S , 138 ° 50 ′  E The Light Regional Council is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . The area is 1,278 km² and has around 14,700 inhabitants (2016).

Light borders the metropolis of Adelaide in the south and is about 70 kilometers northeast of the city center. The area includes 42 hamlets and villages: Allendale North, Bagot Well, Belvidere, Bethel, Buchfelde, Daveyston, Ebenezer / Neukirch, Fords, Freeling , Gawler Belt, Gawler River, Gomersal, Greenock , Hamilton, Hansborough, Hewett, Kangaroo Flat, Kapunda , Kingsford, Koonunga, Koonunga Hill, Linwood, Magdalla, Marananga, Moppa, Morn Hill, Nain, Nuriootpa , Pinkerton Plains, Rosedale, Roseworthy, Rowland Flat, Seppeltsfield , Sheaoak Log, St Johns, St Kitts, Stonewell, Tanunda, Templers, Ward Belt, Wasleys and Woolsheds. The administrative seat of the council is in Kapunda in the north of the LGA, where about 2600 inhabitants live (2016).

The Council of Light has eleven members, ten councilors are elected by the residents of the four wards (three each from Dutton and Mudla Wirra Ward and two each from Laucke and Light Ward). These four districts are determined independently of the districts. The council chairman and mayor is also elected by all residents of the district.
