Greenock is a small town at the northwest end of the Barossa Valley in South Australia and is located about 41 miles from Adelaide on the Sturt Highway . The closest locations are Seppeltsfield , Nuriootpa and Marananga .

The place with about 950 inhabitants was named by James Smith, the secretary of George Fife Angas , after the Scottish city Greenock on the Clyde . Greenock is characterized by three avenues and is sometimes also called Little Scotland in the Barossa Valley (German: Little Scotland in the Barossa Valley ). Greenock is on the Heysen Trail , Australia's longest long-distance hiking trail.
