Seraikela ( Hindi सराईकिला रियासत Sarāikilā riyāsat ; also Seraikella or Saraikela ) was a princely state in British India in what is now the state of Jharkhand . It was one of the nine Chota Nagpur states under the Bengal presidency . Its capital was at the river Kharkai place located Seraikela .

The principality of the Rathore dynasty was founded in 1620 by Raja Bikram Singh, the younger son of Raja Jagannath Singh III of Porahat. Since 1803 Seraikela belonged to British India.

Seraikela had an area of ​​1163 km² in 1892 with about 77,000 inhabitants. The last ruler, Raja Aditya Pratap Singh Deo, signed the annexation to the Indian Union on May 18, 1948. Seraikela came to Bihar together with the neighboring princely state of Kharsawan . In 2000 the area became part of the newly formed state of Jharkhand .
