The city is the capital of the Seraikela Kharsawan district . Seraikela is administered as a Nagar Panchayat . The city is divided into 10 wards (constituencies).

history

Saraika was once the capital of the princely state of Seraikela . Since 2001 it has been the capital of the Seraikela Kharsawan district, which previously belonged to the Pashchimi Singhbhum district.

Demographics

The city's population is 14,252 according to the 2011 census. Seraikela has a gender ratio of 953 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 83.3% in 2011. Almost 88% of the population are Hindus , approx. 4% are Muslims , approx. 1% are Christians and approx. 7% belong to another or no religion. Children under 6 years of age are 12.4% of the population. 14.5% belong to the Scheduled Tribes .

Culture

The region is known for the expressive dance Chhau .
