The Serb Creek is a left tributary of the Zymoetz River in the western part of the Canadian province of British Columbia .
The Serb Creek arises in the Hazelton Mountains , a mountain range east of the Kitimat Ranges , at an altitude of about 1100 m at the confluence of several glacier-fed mountain streams. It initially flows in a north-easterly direction through the mountains, turns for the last 8 kilometers in a north-northwest direction and finally flows into the Zymoetz River below McDonell Lake. It thus belongs to the river system of the Skeena River . Its length is about 25 kilometers.
Mineral resources were discovered at Serb Creek, most recently in 1960 a molybdenum deposit ( Serb Creek Molybdenum Deposit ), which is estimated at 41.15 million tons. The deep rock under the Serb Creek is composed of medium-grain quartz - monzonite .
etymology
The river was named after a Canadian official in 1915, who named it after the Serbs . It is not clear whether he was also referring to the Serbian settlers living and working on site. There is only a hand-written note on this, which reads: .... after gallant allies. The coastal area of British Columbia was settled by Serbian settlers who had moved from California and originally came mainly from Dalmatia . The name was officially confirmed again in 1936. The surrounding region Serb Region and its highest peak Serb Peak were locally named after Serb Creek .
