Serden Ozcan

Serden Özcan (also Serden Ozcan) (born 1977 ) is a professor and holder of the Chair for Business Administration , in particular Innovation and Corporate Transformation ( Otto Beisheim Foundation Chair ) at the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar near Koblenz .

biography

Özcan first studied at the University of Southern Denmark as a Bachelor student (1998), then he went to Copenhagen Business School for his Masters and PhD (2001) . In 2014 he moved to Germany. Since 2019 he has been Associate Dean for Corporate Communications and a member of the WHU Executive Committee at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management in Düsseldorf. and since July 2014 professor and holder of the chair for Innovation and Corporate Transformation. In the 2017/2018 academic year, the Chair for Innovation and Business Transformation moved from Vallendar to Düsseldorf . Since October 2017 he has been on the board as academic director of the WHU Executive Education program . In addition, Özcan has been Academic Co-Director for the High Performance Board Member Program, which is carried out with WHU and IESE , since February 2020 . Before that, Özcan was Assistant Professor (2007) and then Associate Professor (2009) in the Department of Innovation and Organizational Economics at Copenhagen Business School, Denmark , until 2014 . He was also one of the two Academic Directors of the Entrepreneurship Platform. During this time he was visiting researcher at the National University of Singapore NUS Business School in Singapore , Stanford University, and Sabancı University Graduate School of Management.

Research priorities

The research focus of Özcan and his employees is on innovation and company transformation, including the emergence and dissemination of new business models and organizational forms. Further topics are growth ecosystems, venture capital and private equity , corporate development , competitive strategy and strategic renewal. Özcan is the author of numerous publications in international journals, including Organization Science, Management Science, Journal of Management Studies, Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Organization and Industry and Innovation. Özcan's research is cited in international scientific publications, for example on the subject of digitization , supervisory boards and startups .

He has received several awards for his scientific work, including the Best Paper Runner Up Prize, Coller Institute of Venture, Israel (2017), Best Paper Finalist, Strategic Management Society (SMS), United States of America (2009), Best Paper Finalist , Israel Strategic Management Conference, Be'er Sheva, Israel (December 27-29, 2009), Litschert - Best Doctoral Student Paper at Business Policy Division, Academy of Management, United States of America (2009).

For his teaching activities, Özcan received the award for the best lecturer in the full-time MBA II class of the WHU (2018) and the award of the Danish Society for the Promotion of Business Education (FUHU) for excellent teaching in Denmark (2012),
