Serge Joseph Bernier (born April 29, 1947 in Padoue , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player (right winger), who from 1968 to 1981 for the Philadelphia Flyers , the Los Angeles Kings and the Québec Nordiques in the National Hockey League and for the Quebec Nordiques played in the World Hockey Association .

Career

As a junior he played in the QJHL with the Éperviers de Sorel and was selected in the first round of the NHL Amateur Draft in 1967 as fifth by the Philadelphia Flyers . In the first few years he came only to sporadic missions in the NHL. Mostly he played for the Quebec Aces in the American Hockey League , where he was one of the best scorers.

In the 1970/71 season he made his breakthrough in the NHL. He was the Flyers' second-best scorer behind Bobby Clarke . A year later he was given to the Los Angeles Kings during the season . He was also the second best scorer for the Kings in the 1972/73 season .

This was followed by a change to the WHA to the Quebec Nordiques . Here he was one of the top scorers, was a regular participant in the All-Star Games and also represented the WHA at the Summit Series in 1974 . When he won the Avco World Trophy with the Nordiques in 1977 , he was the best scorer in the playoffs. From 1979 Quebec played in the NHL. Bernier stayed with the team for two seasons, even though injuries plagued him. In 1981 he ended his active career.
