Serge Bourdoncle (born January 24, 1936 in Milhars , Tarn Department ) is a former French football player .

Career

First time in Sochaux (until 1960)

The 167 centimeter tall midfielder Bourdoncle, who was sometimes called up in the storm , already showed great talent as a teenager and won the nationwide youth competition Concours du jeune footballeur in 1952 at the age of 16 . As a result, numerous clubs tried to get his commitment, which ultimately succeeded the first division club FC Sochaux . At the beginning of 1954, the 18-year-old made his debut for this in the top French division. This was followed by sporadic missions and although he was able to improve significantly over the following years, he remained under coach Gabriel Dormois in his role as a substitute player. In the course of the 1957/58 season he made the breakthrough and became part of the team. With the team he reached the national cup final in 1959 . He was on the pitch when it came to a 2-2 draw after extra time against Le Havre AC and therefore a replay was necessary. In this he had to witness a 3-0 defeat of his teammates as a bystander, which meant that he missed winning the trophy. In 1960 he turned his back on Sochaux after seven years.

Time in Nîmes, Bordeaux and return to Sochaux (1960–1965)

In the summer of 1960 he signed with the first division Olympique Nîmes , where he received a place in the first team and had to compete in the relegation battle. After half a year he temporarily left the club again when he was loaned to the second division team Girondins Bordeaux at the turn of the year 1960/61 . There he stayed in the shadow of the future national player Laurent Robuschi despite good performances . In the summer of 1961 he went back to Nîmes, where he was only called out sporadically under coach Kader Firoud . In 1962 he therefore returned to FC Sochaux, which had meanwhile been relegated to the second division, where he was undisputed and advanced to become a leading player. In the 1962/63 season he was also an important goal scorer for the team with 13 goals. Both 1963 and 1964 he won the secondary cup competition Coupe Charles Drago with Sochaux . 1964 also succeeded in returning to the first division. He and his teammates managed to stay up before he went back to the second-highest division in 1965 for regional rivals RCFC Besançon .

Final years (1965–1968)

At Besançon he was an integral part of the team, even if he found himself with the team mostly in the lower half of the table. In 1967 he dared to return to the top class by signing with FC Metz . His declining physical abilities meant that he could not permanently establish himself in the first eleven with the Lorraine. In 1968 he ended his professional career at the age of 32 after 176 first division games with 30 goals and 128 second division games with 34 goals. In 1970 he started a new profession when he started a business selling swimming pools in Voujeaucourt . This lasted long-term and later counted another professional footballer, Jean-Pierre Posca, among his employees.
