Sergei Michailowitsch Seljanow ( Russian Сергей Михайлович Сельянов ; born August 21, 1955 in Olonez , Karelo-Finnish SSR , RSFSR USSR ) is a Russian film producer, director and screenwriter. He is the managing director of the film company STV .

Life

From 1975 to 1976 he studied at the Polytechnic Institute of Tula , where he headed the Club of Film Lovers. In 1989 he studied directing and screenwriting at the SA Gerasimov State Russian Institute for Cinematography (WGIK).

In 1980 he made his first feature film , Name Day , with Nikolai Makarow. It was not approved by the censors and could only be broadcast on television in 1988. In 1992 he founded the film company STV . He has produced over 40 feature and documentary films that have been shown at national and international film festivals. His gangster films The Brother (1997) and Brother 2 (2000) with Sergei Bodrov in the leading role became Russian blockbusters . The world war drama Kukuschka - The Cuckoo (2002) attracted international attention ; the short film Lavatory Lovestory was nominated for an Oscar in 2009.

He also produced various TV films for ORT . These include Die Iron Alten (1996), 100 Years of Russian Film (1996) and The Way of the Cinema (1996–1999).

Awards

In 2001 he was awarded the Golden Aries as the best Russian producer of the year, and in 2002 the Golden Aries for "Courage and Ascent on Russian Television". In 1999 he received an award from the Motion Picture Association of America . In 2003 he was honored with a prize by the Russian trade magazines Video Business , Film and Filmbusiness Today .
