Sergei Sokolov (soccer player)
Sergei Vadimowitsch Sokolow ( Russian Сергей Вадимович Соколов , born March 12, 1977 in Stavropol ) is a former Azerbaijani football player . The defender was an Azerbaijani international .
He began his career at FC Lokomotive Mineralnye Vody , with whom he rose from the third to the second Russian league in 1997. He later played with Kavkaztransgaz Izobilny and Okean Nachodka . In 2004 he moved to PFK Kjapas in the Azerbaijani top league . In early 2006 he went to FK Qarabağ Ağdam , with whom he won the Azerbaijani Cup . From 2008 to 2010 he was under contract with the PFK Simurq Zaqatala . Then he moved to FK Qəbələ , where he ended his career in 2012.
Sokolov was called up to the Azerbaijani national team seven times in 2006. After the European Championship qualifier against Belgium in October 2006, he was tested positive for betamethasone during doping control and was banned for 18 months.
