Serghei Cleșcenco (FIFA spelling Serghei Clescenco , Russian Сергей Викторович Клещенко / Sergei Wiktorowitsch Kleschtschenko , born May 20, 1972 in Criuleni , Moldovan SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Moldovan football player .

Club career

Cleșcenco's career began in 1990 with his hometown club Zimbru Chișinău , for which he played until 1995. Then he moved to the honor division for the Go Ahead Eagles . After the team, however , relegated to the 2nd division and missed promotion in the following season, Cleşcenco returned to Zimbru Chişinău. In 1999 he moved to Israel to Maccabi Haifa , where he scored 22 goals in his first season. He holds the record in Israel for the most goals scored by a foreign player in one season. A season later he became Israeli champions with his club . After two years at Maccabi, he joined league rivals Hapoel Tel Aviv . At the end of the season he was able to win the Israeli League Cup with the club . In 2003, after a short stopover in Russia, he moved to Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv . In 2005 he went back to Russia for FK Sibir Novosibirsk , for which he played for two years. From 2007 he was active for one season at the Russian third division club FK Metallurg-Kuzbass Novokuznetsk . In February 2008 he ended his playing career.

National team

Serghei Cleşcenco holds the Moldovan national team record for the most international goals (11). His first international match, which was also the first international match for Moldova, he played against Georgia in 1991 . His last against Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2006 .
