Sergio Almaguer (born May 16, 1969 in Monterrey , Nuevo León ) is a former Mexican football player who was used until the 1995/96 season in the position of the striker and from 1996/97 acted as a defender . He is currently working as the coach of the Mexican U-20 national team .
career

Dávalos began his professional career with the Ángeles de Puebla and moved after their withdrawal from the first division in 1988 to city rivals Puebla FC , with whom he won both the championship and the cup competition in the 1989/90 season.
In 1996 he won the cup competition again with the UANL Tigres and the championship title again with Club Necaxa in the low-level tournament of the 1998/99 season. With Cruz Azul he played both finals for the Copa Libertadores 2001 against the Boca Juniors .
With the exception of the 2002/03 season, which he partly spent at Galatasaray Istanbul in Turkey , Almaguer was otherwise only active in his home country and ended his active career in the 2004/05 season with the Jaguares de Chiapas .
National team
Almaguer made his international debut for the Mexican national team in the 3-0 win against Canada on March 14, 1991 and he also played a month later against Costa Rica (0-0), but then had to wait until February 10, 1999 before he came in a friendly against Argentina (0: 1) for his next mission. Almaguer played his 18th and last international match in a friendly against the USA on October 25, 2000 (0-2).
Trainer
In the Clausura 2008 , Almaguer, now working as a football coach, was first entrusted with the role of head coach at his former club Jaguares de Chiapas.
Almaguer is currently the team leader for the Mexican U-20 national team.
