Günther Lommer

Günther Lommer (born July 5, 1946 in Cham ) is a German sports functional and local politician . From 2004 to 2018 he was President of the Bavarian State Sports Association .

Life

Günther Lommer attended elementary school and grammar school in his native town of Cham from 1952 to 1967 . During his school days he spent a year as an exchange student in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania, USA. From 1969 to 1974 Lommer studied economics and education at the University of Regensburg . After completing his studies, he became a teacher at the Johann Brunner School in Cham. In 1988 he became vice principal there .

Lommer is the third generation of the family to work for ASV Cham . Grandfather Franz Lommer was Oberturnwart, hiking warden and supervisor of the handball ladies. Father Franz Lommer was the managing director of football during the greatest football days in Cham in the second division of the 1950s.

As an active player, Günther Lommer played football from his earliest youth at ASV Cham (until 1978 and up to the regional league) and handball (1972 to 1978 in the regional league); he was also a middle-distance runner. Later he also worked as a trainer. From 1974 to 2007 he was chairman and president of ASV Cham.

From 1986 to 2005, Lommer was district chairman of the Upper Palatinate Football Association. From 1998 he was treasurer and member of the executive committee of the Bavarian Football Association (BFV). From 2010 to 2014 he was Vice President of the BFV.

In 2000 he was elected to the Presidium of the Bavarian State Sports Association (BLSV). In 2004 Lommer took over the management of the BLSV, which he led until 2018. On June 5, 2018, he announced that he was not going to run again for the FSVO presidency; the previous Vice President Jörg Ammon was elected Lommer's successor at the Association Day on June 8, 2018. At the Association Day, Lommer was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor of the German Olympic Sports Confederation for his voluntary work.

From 1978 to 2014 Lommer was a member of the city ​​council of Cham for the CSU . Among other things, he was second mayor in Cham.

Lommer is married and has two sons.
