Sergio Casali

Sergio Casali (* 1969 in Varazze , Province of Savona , Italy ) is an Italian Latinist and currently Professore associato di Lingua e letteratura latina at the Dipartimento di Antichità e Tradizione Classica at the University of Rome Tor Vergata .

Casali studied from 1988 to 1997 at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa . In 1992/1993 he was studying abroad at St John's College , Oxford . He acquired the laurea in Latin literature in 1993 from Gian Biagio Conte at the University of Pisa . Since 1998 he has been a research assistant at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. He received his appointment as professore associato in 2001.

Casali works mainly on Augustan poetry, especially on Ovid and Virgil , on the epic tradition of the Romans and on the ancient exegesis of the Aeneid , especially on Servius . A commentary on the second book of the Aeneid is now available.
