Sergio Frusoni
Sergio Frusoni (born August 10, 1901 in Mindelo , São Vicente , † May 29, 1975 in Lisbon ) was a Cape Verdean poet .
Life
Frusoni was born on the island of São Vicente in 1901. His parents, Giuseppe Frusoni and Erminia Bonucci, who immigrated to the island, were Italians .
At the age of 24 he started working for the “Western Telegraph Company” and later switched to “Italcable”. In 1947 he briefly managed the “O Café Sport” bistro. In this bistro, to the delight of his audience, he presented his self- written poems , anecdotes about the life in Mindelens and a few short stories in the Creole of São Vicente. When "Italcable" resumed its activities, he worked there until he retired. In the 1960s he directed the theater company Theatro do Castilho . From 1957 to 1960 he was a chronicler on Radio Barlavento , where he presented the Mosaico Mindelense program in Kreol together with Djunga Fotógrafo . It is not very well known outside the Cape Verdean Islands.
On June 7, 2005, Sergio Frusoni was honored by Cape Verdean President Pedro Pires as one of the most important Creole poets.
