The Serranía Marimonos (also: Sierra de Marimonos ) is a series of ridges in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

The Serranía Marimonos is a section of the Bolivian Voranden chains and lies between the Cordillera Oriental in the west and the Moxos plain in the east. It extends in a north-west-south-east direction in the La Paz department in the Sud Yungas province in the Palos Blancos district ( Bolivian : Municipios ) . The ridge is bounded in the southwest by the Río Alto Beni and in the northeast by various rivers, its total length is around 120 kilometers.

geography

The Serranía Marimonos follows the folding direction of the Andes high mountains without reaching the absolute height of the central Andean regions, its eastern flank drowns in the erosion material that has been washed into the Bolivian lowlands over millions of years. The Sierra de Marimonos consists of several parallel ridges that also have their own regional names, such as the Serranía Tacuaral or the Serranía Cajones . In the direction of the Sierra Marimonos, various larger rivers, such as the Río Inicua and the Río Quiquibey, run between the individual ridges .

Development

The Serranía Marimonos is sparsely populated and only accessible by unpaved roads; its northwestern section is cut through by the Ruta 3 highway . On the fringes of the Serranía Marimonos, villages have developed into small towns in recent decades, such as Palos Blancos between the Serranía Marimonos and the Río Alto Beni.
