Server Mustafayev

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Serwer Rustemowytsch Mustafajew ( Ukrainian Сервер Рустемович Мустафаєв * 5. May 1986 in Ziadin , Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic , Soviet Union ) is a krimtatarischer human rights activist based organization Crimean solidarity ( Crimean Solidarity ). He was arrested by the Russian authorities on May 21, 2018 and charged with “membership in a terrorist organization”.

Life

Mustafayev was born on May 5, 1986 in Ziadin. His family returned to the Crimea , where he lived in Bakhchysarai . In 2014, Mustafayev began actively helping families of political prisoners and became one of the coordinators of the civil rights organization Crimean Solidarity, whose activities aim to provide legal aid to the families of political prisoners in Crimea.

On May 21, 2018, FSB officials searched Server Mustafayev's house in Bakhchysarai and took him to Simferopol . He was accused of belonging to the Islamist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir . According to his lawyer, the only alleged evidence is a sound recording of a religious training that took place on December 2, 2016 in a mosque in Bakhchysarai. You can then hear Mustafayev ask a question and make several brief remarks. Although the training was openly advertised and attended by 70 other people, investigators said it was a secret meeting of Hizb ut-Tahrir. Mustafayev was therefore charged with “membership in a terrorist organization” and later also with “conspiracy with the aim of a violent seizure of power”. He denies the allegations.

International reactions

The Russian human rights organization Memorial , Front Line Defenders and Amnesty International have classified Mustafayev as a political prisoner and demanded his release.

In June 2018, the European Parliament passed a resolution calling on the Russian authorities to immediately release illegally detained Ukrainian citizens, including Server Mustafayev.

The US Mission to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe expressed concern about Mustafayev's health and called for his release.
