Seth Adam Greisinger (born July 29, 1975 in Kansas City , Kansas ) is a retired American baseball player on the position of pitcher . He played in Major League Baseball (MLB), KBO League and Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) throughout his career . With the national team he won the bronze medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta .

Life

Greisinger was active in the North American MLB between 1998 and 2005, but could not play between 1998 and 2002 due to an injury and then hardly made any major league appearances. For the Detroit Tigers , who drafted him in 1996 , he threw a total of 29 games (8 W - 11 L ) , especially in his rookie year 1998 and 2002 . He then became a free agent in 2003 and was under contract with the Minnesota Twins in 2004 , who released him with 12 missions at the end of the season. He signed a contract with the Washington Nationals , which passed him on to the Atlanta Braves in a player swap before the start of the 2005 season . With only one major league appearance, he was released by the Braves in June 2005.

Then Greisinger moved to the South Korean KBO to the Kia Tigers , which he helped in 2006 in 29 starts (14-12) to participate in the playoffs. In 2007 he played as the first pitcher of the rotation for the Japanese Tōkyō Yakult Swallows , but they let him go at the end of the year after failed contract negotiations. With a two-year contract worth an estimated 500 million yen (around 3.75 million euros), he has since played for the record champions Yomiuri Giants . In Japan, Greisinger led the Central League with 16 wins in 2007 and 17 in 2008 . In 2008 he was also inducted into the Central League's Best Nine . In 2009 Greisinger opened the season for the Giants, but threw weaker than in previous years. At the season finale 2009 he had pain in his elbow and had to stay on the bench, in March 2010 he returned to the United States for an examination. In 2010 he threw physically impaired only in six games (0-2; 5.48 ERA) and had to accept a significant cut in salary for his one-year contract extension with the Giants.
