St. Mary's Church

The Catholic Church of St. Marien is one of the oldest sacred buildings in the Oldenburger Münsterland . The two-bay hall church made of granite blocks dates from the middle of the 12th century. At the end of the 13th century the originally flat-roofed church was vaulted, while the walls were raised with bricks . The transept with the choir dates from 1920, the romanticized tower from 1965.

The sandstone altar structure with reliefs of the Passion, donated in 1662, comes from St Peter and Paul in Cappeln (Oldenburg) and was created by Bernd Meiering from Rheine. A painted winged altar was built around 1600, the former high altar in rococo forms around 1780–1790 (north transept). In 2003 the old confessional from 1694, the oldest in the Oldenburger Münsterland and originally also made for Cappeln, came to light again.
