Severin Heusch
Severin Hubert Theodor Heusch (* December 27, 1827 in Aachen ; † June 3, 1873 there ) was a German entrepreneur and founder of the oldest shear knife factory in Germany.
Live and act
The son of the needle manufacturer Theodor Heusch (1787-1856) and Eva Herten (* 1779) completed an apprenticeship in their parents' company in order to be able to take over one day. Shortly after this apprenticeship, Severin Heusch and the locksmith Wilhelm Oebel tried to make machine-made cloth shearers, which until then had been made by hand. After their test series were crowned with success and ready for series production, Heusch founded his own factory in Aachen in 1850 at the age of 23, which was the first of its kind in Germany. The new company did pioneering work in the new field of activity and brought enormous advantages for the further development of cloth manufacturing .
Severin Heusch's first marriage to Maria, geb. Labeye (1834–1861) married, with whom he had a daughter. After her death, he married Maria Ida Schlossmacher (1838-1919), who gave birth to her son Severin (1868-1943) and six daughters.
Further development of the Severin Heusch company
After Severin Heusch's early death in 1873, the company was initially continued by his widow until the only son Severin junior was old and qualified enough to take over the business. He then moved the factory from Aachen to Krugenofen 29/33 in Burtscheid and equipped it with the most modern manufacturing and processing machines . At the turn of the century, the Heusch company took over the Verviers- based company " G. Xhonneux " and the Aachen company " Fontaine & Co. " At this point in time, Heusch also developed the new " Heusch concave spiral " named after him , a cutting knife, its main advantage consisted in the fact that its cutting angle no longer changes in the course of the material wear process.
With this innovation, Heusch was able to increase its productivity again and in 1924 employed around 120 people who operated around 100 special machines. In addition, the company set up the Severin Heusch relief fund for its employees . After the company Heusch had previously only manufactured shear knives for the cloth industry, special precision knives in all dimensions and for every type of machine for processing cotton , linen , jute , velvet , plush , carpets and coconut products as well as for the leather industry were added.
Although the company was badly destroyed in the course of the Second World War, the company, meanwhile run by the grandson of the company founder, also a Severin Heusch (* 1900), was able to resume work as early as 1945. Years later it traded under the name Heusch GmbH & Co KG and moved from Burtscheid to the Eilendorf industrial park , where it is still based today.
