The Shag Point ( English for American plaice tip ) is a headland on the south coast of King George Iceland in the South Shetland Islands . It is located between Arctowski Cove and Halfmoon Cove , both side bays of Admiralty Bay . Here the Polish Arctowski lighthouse stands on the striking basaltic pillar of the surf, Latarnia Rock .
The headland got its name from the American ornithologists Wayne Z. Trivelpiece and Nicholas J. Volkman, who were visiting scientists at the Polish Arctowski station from 1977 to 1978 .
