The district Shaheed Benazirabad formerly Nawabshah is an administrative district in Pakistan in the province of Sindh . The seat of the district administration is the city of Nawabshah .
The district has an area of 4504 km² and according to the 2017 census 1,612,847 inhabitants. The population density is 358 inhabitants / km². The Sindhi language is spoken by the majority in the district .
location
The district is located in the center of Sindh Province, which is located in southeastern Pakistan. The Indus flows through the district in the west.

history
In 2008 the district was renamed Shaheed Benazirabad by the Sindh Provincial Government of Nawabshah. The renaming took place in honor of the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was murdered in 2007 .
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017, the population grew by 2.02% annually. About 30% of the population live in urban areas and about 70% in rural areas. 833,935 men, 778,883 women and 29 transgender people live in 297,133 households , which results in a gender ratio of 107.1 men per 100 women and thus a frequent surplus of men for Pakistan.
The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 50% (women: 33%, men: 66%) and thus below the average of the Sindh province of 60%.
