Shahid Khaqan Abbasi ( Urdu شاہد خاقان عباسی DMG Šāhid Ḫāqān ʿAbbāsī ; * December 27, 1958 ) is a Pakistani politician of the Pakistan Muslim League (N). He was Prime Minister of Pakistan from August 1, 2017 to May 30, 2018 . Previously, he was a member of the National Assembly , Chairman of Pakistan International Airlines , Minister of Finance and Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources .

Life

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi attended Lawrence College in Murree, then the University of California, Los Angeles and George Washington University in Washington, DC , from which he graduated with a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering . He returned to Pakistan and began his political career after his father's death in 1988. Abbasi ran for the Rawalpindi constituency and won the election for a seat in parliament. Abbasi was temporarily chairman of the board of the PIA , but was pushed out of the position because he wanted to thwart the coup attempt by Pervez Musharraf together with the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif .
