Shamsi Vuai Nahodha

Shamsi "Ali" Vuai Nahodha (born October 28, 1962 in Zanzibar ) is a Tanzanian politician of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) who was chief minister of Zanzibar from 2000 to 2010, interior minister between 2010 and 2012 and defense minister from 2012 to 2013 .

Life

Narodha attended the Kiongoni Primary School from 1969 to 1976 and the Ben-bella Secondary School between 1976 and 1979 and then completed language training at the Institute of Kiswahili and Foreign Languages from 1980 to 1984 , which he completed with a diploma. Subsequently, in 1984 he began a teaching degree at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), which he completed in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Education). He also completed postgraduate studies in international relations at the Center for Foreign Relations between 1996 and 1997 , which he completed with a diploma.

On November 15, 2000, Nahodha took over the post of Chief Minister of Zanzibar from Mohamed Gharib Bilal and held this post until its dissolution on November 9, 2010. At the same time he was a member of the House of Representatives of Zanzibar from 2000 to 2010. In 2000 he also became a member of the Central Committee and the National Executive Committee of the Party of Revolution CCM ( Chama Cha Mapinduzi ) and was a member of these two governing bodies of the party until 2016. During this time he completed a distance learning course in management at the Open University of Tanzania (OUT) from 2005 to 2008 , which he completed with a Master of Business Administration (MBA). In November 2010 he was elected member of the National Assembly for the CCM , in which he has since represented the constituency of Kijitoupele .

On November 24, 2010, Nahodha succeeded Lawrence Masha as Interior Minister after his previous post as Chief Minister of Zanzibar had been abolished. He held the post of interior minister until his replacement by Emmanuel Nchimbi on May 7, 2012 as part of a new cabinet reshuffle, in which Shamsi Vuai Nahodha himself became the new minister of defense and the national service. In a further cabinet reshuffle on December 20, 2013, he was replaced as Defense Minister by Hussein Mwinyi and Interior Minister Nchimbi also lost his office as Interior Minister. He then remained a member of the House of Representatives as a backbencher and was a member of the Committee on Constitution, Legal and Government Affairs between 2013 and 2015.
