Shane Lowry (born June 12, 1989 in Canberra ) is an Irish-Australian football player .
Club career
Lowry, the son of Irish parents, was born in Canberra , Australia in 1989 and played in the youth department of the local club ECU Joondalup until 2005 . In February he moved with Chris Herd to the youth academy of the English club Aston Villa . Lowry made his first competitive games for Aston Villa in the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League play-offs when he came on as a substitute for Curtis Davies when he unexpectedly failed at the Austrian club SK Rapid Wien in both games . In mid-September 2009 he was awarded for three months to the English second division club Plymouth Argyle .
National team
Lowry played in 2006 for the Irish U-17 national team in the elite round of the European Championship qualifying phase , but missed the final with his team due to a defeat in the last game against Serbia-Montenegro. As a result, he was also used for Irish selection teams of the age groups U-19, U-21 and U-23.
In September 2009, after talks with Australian association officials, Lowry decided to play internationally for Australia in the future and was invited by the Australian national coach Pim Verbeek for the first time to the Australian national team at the beginning of October for the international matches against the Netherlands and Oman, but did not appear in the two games for use.
