Shao, the moon fairy ( Japanese ま も っ て 守護 月 天! Mamotte Shugogettes! ) Is a manga series by the Japanese illustrator Minene Sakurano . The manga was also known as anime - TV series and OVA implemented. It can be assigned to the Shōnen genre.

action

The student Tasuke Shichiri ( 七 梨 太 助 ) lives alone. His life changes suddenly when his father sends him an artifact from China , from which ( Shao 守護 月 天 小 璘, Shugogetten Shaorin ), a moon fairy, appears. The naive Shao has yet to learn to navigate the modern age and is causing so much chaos. In the course of the story, other nature spirits emerge who also mess up Tasuke's life: the sun fairy Ruan ( 慶幸 日 天 汝 昴, Keikōnitte Rūan ) and the earth fairy Kiryu ( 万難 地 天 紀 柳 , Bannanchiten Kiryū ).

Publications

The manga was published in Japan by Square Enix in February 1997 in Shōnen Gangan magazine. The series ran until April 2000 and was also summarized in eleven volumes. After Minene Sakurano changed the publisher, the manga was re-released by Mag Garden . There the manga appeared in 10 volumes, and two additional chapters were added. From December 2002 Mag Garden published the sequel to the manga with the title Mamotte Shugogetten! Retrouvailles . The series ran in Comic Blade magazine until March 2005 and was later combined into six anthologies.

The manga was published in English in Riin Comics magazine. Akiko published the work in French.

TOKYOPOP's manga was published in Germany from August 2005 to July 2006. The translation is by Costa Caspary. All six volumes of the sequel with the German title Wiedersehen mit Shao were published.

Anime

In 1998, the studio produced Toei Animation a 22-part anime - TV series for manga. It was directed by Yukio Kaizawa . The character design comes from Ken Ueno, the artistic directors Junichi Higashi, Kazuhiko Suzuki, Ken Tokushige, Kenji Matsumoto, Koji Sakaki and Mada Izumi. The series was broadcast from October 17, 1998 to April 3, 1999 on the Japanese broadcaster TV Asahi .

In 2000 the series was followed by an OVA with eight 30-minute episodes by the same team.

The music in the series was composed by Rinoie Jo. The opening credits Saa were produced by Surface, the credits I Just Feel So Love Again ~ soba ni iru dake de ~ and Makenaide are by Sweet Velvet and Kōda Mariko.

For the OVA, the songs Wish and Magic by Kōda Mariko were used for the opening credits. For the credits, I'll Follow You by jyushi-ca and Hoshigami Rishu-deshi by Ayako Kawasumi were used.
