Shea Cowart

Mary Shea Cowart (* 1979 ) is a former American sprinter, Paralympic winner and current world record holder.

life and career

Raised in Georgia , Shea Cowart was amputated both lower legs at the age of six after a meningococcal infection and subsequent gangrene .

Nevertheless, she led a relatively normal life afterwards and played sports such as softball, basketball and cheerleading. In 1998 he entered competitive sports, especially on the 100 , 200 and 400 meter routes .

The highlight of her career is the double victory over the T44 100 and T44 200 meters at the Paralympic Games in Sydney 2000 . The best times run in 2001 and 2002 were still in the official IPC record list until 2012 .

Due to the lack of both lower legs, Cowart was assigned to category T43 , but she usually competed in category T44 (amputation of a leg below the knee):
