Sheena Davis

Sheena Davis (* 10. November 1968 in Aldershot as Sheena Rachael Johnson ) is a British jazz singer .

Sheena Davis grew up in Shropshire and learned to play the piano as a child. At school, she won several talent competitions, and at the age of seven, one of her compositions was broadcast on a local TV station. After leaving school, she played in various local bands as a keyboardist and initially as a choir singer, but soon also as a lead singer. She came to jazz through her membership in the Hereford Big Band .
In 1994 she performed at the Brecon Jazz Festival as a vocalist in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO). She then moved to London and became the ensemble's lead singer. Sheena Davis toured the UK with NYJO, then appeared in the Ronnie Scott Club and appeared on four NYJO albums.
At the end of 1997 she left NYJO and founded her own formation, in which her husband, bassist Robert Rickenberg also played. Sheena Davis performed regularly with her band in the London jazz and swing scene, such as in the 100 Club , 606 Club, Pizza on the Park , in various radio programs and again in Ronnie Scott's, where she worked with Guy Barker , Bill Bruford's Earthworks , Pat Martino and others worked. In 2001 she made her debut album Smile for the Jazzizit label , followed by Young At Heart (2003) and Matchmaker (2005).
