Sheila Gish

Sheila Gish (born April 23, 1942 in Lincoln , † March 9, 2005 in London ; actually Sheila Gash ) was a British theater and film actress .

The daughter of a British officer spent early childhood in Egypt and Sudan before being sent to the Royal School for Daughters of Officers of the Army in Bath . She received her acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art . Gish mainly played theater, but also took on numerous television and film roles. Her best-known film role was that of Rachel Ellenstein in Russell Mulcahy's cult film Highlander - There Can Only Be One .

Gish was married to actor Roland Curram (* 1932) from 1964 to 1985. They had two daughters, both also actresses: Lou Gish (1967-2006) and Kay Curram (* 1974). In March 2004, Sheila Gish married the actor Denis Lawson (* 1947) in Antigua , with whom she had lived since 1985.

Gish died of a rare form of facial cancer. In 2003, her right eye had to be removed due to the disease that broke out in 2002. In the same year she played her last stage role, the Arkadina in Stephen Pimlott's production of Anton Chekhov's Die Möwe , at the Chichester Festival Theater with an eye patch. The actress was buried in Highgate Cemetery , London.

Lou Gish , her older daughter, also died of cancer in February 2006. Sheila Gish was the aunt of well-known Scottish actor Ewan McGregor .
