Sheila Watt-Cloutier
Sheila Watt-Cloutier (* 2. December 1953 in Kuujjuaq , Province of Quebec ) is a Canadian Inuit - activist .
She is a political representative of the Inuit at regional, national and international level, most recently as international chairwoman for the Inuit Circumpolar Council . Sheila Watt-Cloutier has worked on a wide variety of social and environmental issues affecting Inuit. Her current work is on persistent organic pollutants and global warming . In addition to being recognized for her work with various prizes and honors, she has been portrayed in numerous documentaries by journalists from all media.
Awards
- 2005: Appointment as one of seven Champions of the Earth by the United Nations ;
- 2015: Right Livelihood Award (Alternative Nobel Prize) "for their lifelong commitment to the rights of the Inuit and for the preservation of their livelihood and culture, which are acutely threatened by climate change". She shares the prize money of SEK three million with the people of the Marshall Islands and their Foreign Minister Tony de Brum , the Ugandan human rights activist Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera and the Italian surgeon and peace activist Gino Strada .
