The station comprises two track levels that are arranged crosswise. On the upper level, the Sheppard Line trains run from two side platforms. There is also an in shell finished middle platform. Should the station become more important as a traffic junction, this platform could be used as a Spanish solution . Boarding and alighting would therefore be possible from both sides of the train. The trains currently only use the southern side platform; only trains stop at the northern end and are then decommissioned. In the lower part of the station, the Yonge University Line stops at a central platform. There are transfer options to eight bus routes.

If trains or work cars have to be exchanged between the two lines, they travel from the south on a connecting route that leads to a point 500 meters west of the station under Sheppard Avenue. There is also enough space there to park trains during non-operating times. Coming from the north, a significantly shorter link meets the Sheppard Line immediately east of the station.

The upper platform level is adorned with a work of art by Stacey Spiegel called Immersion Land . It is a mural whose tiny mosaic tiles each consist of scaled-down images of numerous panoramic digital photos. Viewed from a distance, the work of art depicts a rural scene between Lake Ontario and North Bay . The closer you get to the picture, the more blurred it appears. It symbolizes the gradual urbanization of the once untouched area.

history

The station opened on March 30, 1974, along with the York Mills - Finch section . The original plan was to put the entire section from Eglinton to Finch into operation a year earlier, but longer strikes made staging necessary. The station name was initially Sheppard. After more than 15 years of delay, construction began on the Sheppard Line in late 1998. The section to Don Mills was put into operation on November 24, 2002, on the same day the station was given its current designation Sheppard-Yonge. In the final stage, the line was to lead to Downsview in the west and to the center of Scarborough in the east , but continued construction was not carried out for financial reasons.
