Sherif Abdel Azim

Sherif Abdel Azim also Sherif Abdelazeem ( Arabic شريف عبد العظيم, DMG Šarīf ʿAbd al-ʿAẓīm , b. before 1995) is an Egyptian computer scientist. He teaches as Associated Professor of Electronics at the American University in Cairo .

Life

Abdelazeem received his Ph.D. in 1995. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Queen's University in Kingston , Ontario in Canada. His research fields are pattern recognition in computer science ( Pattern Recognition ) specifically machine reading Arabic and Latin handwritten texts and machine learning .

He is the founder and chairman of Resala , a charitable Egyptian NGO . The activities of the Resala extend to caring for orphans, helping the blind and deaf, and fighting illiteracy . The organization of more than 100,000 registered members offers computer lessons, looks after students in need, collects and distributes old clothes, organizes blood donation campaigns and cares for the poor and street children.

In this essay, the result of a sermon on the festival of the breaking of the fast during the author's study visit to Canada, he deals with the diverse prejudices and opinions of the Western world about the position of women in Islam . In his book he draws the following conclusion:

Islam is the religion that has significantly improved the status of women and given them rights that the modern world only granted women in this century. Islam has a lot to offer women, both now and then: dignity, respect and protection in all situations and situations in their lives, from birth to death. It also provides the fulfillment of their: spiritual, mental, physical and emotional needs . (P. 58.)
