Sherman Mitchell

Sherman L. "Sherm" Mitchell (born April 2, 1930 ; † May 4, 2013 in Flint (Michigan) ) was an American jazz trombonist (also flute , alto saxophone ), composer and arranger .

Mitchell played the trombone as the main instrument, but was also active as a flautist, alto saxophonist, composer and arranger. He got Yusef Lateef to study the oboe . Mitchell was active in Detroit and where he lived, Flint. He released two albums under his own name, Far from Tranquil (1988) and Once Upon a Lifetime (1991); altogether he worked in the field of jazz between 1965 and 1999 with five recording sessions, u. a. with Francisco Mora Catlett . Mitchell died in early May 2013 at the age of 83.
