Shi had his first international success at the 2011 Junior World Championships in Courmayeur . There he won over 1000 m and the bronze medal in the 1500 m superfinal. He ran his first World Cup race in Salt Lake City in the 2011/12 season . He finished 25th and 16th over 1500 m. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he won the bronze medal with the relay. He also achieved 35th place over 1500 m. In March 2014 he won the silver medal in the 3000 m superfinal at the world championships in Montreal . In the 2014/15 season he achieved his first podium finish in the World Cup with third place in the relay in Dresden . At the following World Cup in Erzurum , he won his first World Cup victory with the relay. During the season he came under the top ten in all individual participations over 500 m and thus reached seventh place in the overall World Cup over 500 m. At the 2015 World Championships in Moscow , he won bronze over 1000 m. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season , he achieved his first World Cup podiums in individual with second place over 1000 m in Montreal. There he also won his second World Cup victory with the relay. In the further course of the season he came with the relay once on the second and once on the third place. He finished the season in sixth place in the overall World Cup over 1000 m. At the season highlight of the 2016 World Championships in Seoul , he won the gold medal with the relay. The following year he also won the gold medal with the relay at the Winter Asian Games in Sapporo .
