The railway accident Rongjiawan was a collision of two trains on 29 April 1997 in the station of Rongjiawan ( Chinese 荣家湾镇 ), Yueyang , China . 126 people died.

Starting position

The 324 express train came from Kunming or Linxiang and was on its way to Zhengzhou . He was followed on the same route , the Beijing – Guangzhou railway line , by the 818 passenger train from Changsha to Chaling . The express train stopped at Rongjiawan Station. It was raining heavily.

the accident

The dependency between a turnout and a signal was switched incorrectly, so that the corresponding lock did not work. It was therefore possible and also happened that the following passenger train 818 was directed to the platform on which the express train was already parked.
