Shimmer
Shimmer Women Athletes is an American wrestling league from Chicago that had its first event on November 6, 2005. It was founded by Dave Prazak and the wrestler Allison Danger to give North American and international female wrestlers a platform to demonstrate their athletic skills. Shimmer puts on a big show about every three months at the Eagles Club in Berwyn, Illinois , where two to four DVDs are produced, which are then distributed at regular intervals in cooperation with the Wrestling League Ring of Honor . By November 2017, 83 DVDs, each with around three hours of film material, had been published, most recently Volume 82–83 with recordings from June 25, 2016. In Volume 12, the Shimmer Championship title was introduced, from Volume 21 onwards there is the Shimmer Tag Team -Champion title.
Although there are only three to four live events a year, the league is considered the flagship for female wrestling in North America. Most of Shimmer's female wrestlers are among the top 50 female wrestlers in the prestigious Pro Wrestling Illustrated wrestling magazine , with Amazing Kong, cheerleaders Melissa, Mercedes Martinez , Sara del Ray and MsChif regularly making the top 10. In contrast to WWE , where female wrestlers are often portrayed as sex symbols , Shimmer focuses on the athletic and technical skills of female wrestlers .
Several Shimmer wrestlers also appear on the Ring of Honor. Both wrestling leagues work closely together, which is why Shimmer storylines are continued at ROH and the Shimmer Championship title is regularly defended. In addition, Shimmer has an agreement with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) that allows them to have female wrestlers employed by TNA perform at Shimmer events.
