Shin'ya Izumi

Shin'ya Izumi ( Japanese 泉 信 也 , Izumi Shin'ya ; born August 1, 1937 in Yoshii (today: Ukiha ), Fukuoka Prefecture ) is a former Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and minister. Until 2010 he was a member of the Sangiin , the Japanese upper house, and belonged to the Nikai group within the party .

Izumi studied civil engineering at Kyūshū University until 1962 , after which he was an official in the Ministry of Transport. In the 1992 Sangiin election , Izumi was first elected to parliament for the LDP. In 1993 he switched to the Renewal Party , then to the New Progressive Party . After its dissolution, he belonged to the Liberal Party from 1998 and the Conservative Party from 2000 , before finally returning to the LDP in 2003 with the remaining MPs of his party.

Izumi was State Secretary several times before Prime Minister Shinzō Abe appointed him Chairman of the National Public Security Commission and Minister of State for Disaster Management and Food Safety in August 2007 during his cabinet reshuffle . Yasuo Fukuda took him over to his cabinet a month later , but replaced him with Motoo Hayashi in the cabinet reshuffle in August 2008 .

In the 2010 Sangiin election , Izumi did not run.
