Ace o nerae! ( Japanese. エ ー ス を ね ら え! , Eng. "strive for the ace") is a manga series by the Japanese illustrator Sumika Yamamoto , which was published in Japan from 1973 to 1980. The work was adapted as an anime and dorama and can be classified into the genres Shōjo , sport and romance. It deals with the rise of a young and talented tennis player.

content

High school student Hiromi Oka is fascinated by her older classmate Reika Ryūzaki, the best player on the school's tennis team. She emulates her and soon the new trainer Jin Munakata realizes her talent. But at first Hiromi Oka is still uncertainly hesitant, but soon gets better and better.

When she falls in love with the tennis player Takayuki Tōdō, her coach advises her not to let her feelings guide her. However, this is difficult for her and soon affects her performance. Only with the support of her friends and the trainer does she manage to overcome her crisis.

The manga appeared from 1973 to 1980 in the manga magazine Margaret published by Shūeisha . The chapters have also been published in 18 edited volumes. The series was reprinted several times.

Animes

1973 Madhouse and Tokyo Movie Shinsha produced a 26-part anime series based on the manga . Here led Osamu Dezaki Director, for the character design Akio Sugino and Takeo Kitahara were responsible and artistic director was Noboru Ryūike. The series aired from October 5, 1973 to March 29, 1974 by MBS in Japan. Translations into French, Spanish and Italian followed.

In 1978 Tokyo Movie Shinsha produced a second season of Shin Ace o Nerae! (“The New Ace o Nerae!”), Which was shown on Nippon TV from October 14, 1978 to March 31, 1979 and has been translated into Spanish and Italian. 1979 also came out a movie that summarizes the first season.

From 1988 to 1990 there followed two original video animation series with 13 and 12 parts respectively on 6 VHS cassettes, which were titled Ace o Nerae! 2 and Ace o Nerae! 2 Final Stage were released.

The music of the first season was composed by Go Mizawa. The song Ace o Nerae! Was used for the opening credits ! ( エ ー ス を ね ら え! ), for the credits Shiroi Tennis Court ( 白 い テ ニ ス コ ー ト で , German "white tennis court"), both sung by Kumiko Ōsugi .

The music of the second season comes from Kōji Makaino . The opening credits are Seishun ni Kakero! ( 青春 に か け ろ! ) And the credits Asu ni Mukatte ( 明日 に 向 ​​か っ て ), written by Machiko Ryū and sung by Johnny's band VIP.

Makaino was also responsible for the soundtrack in the movie. In the film the titles Mabushii Kisetsu ni ( ま ぶ し い 季節 に ) and Harukana Yume ( は る か な 夢 ) were used, written by Machiko Ryū and sung by Shōnen Tanteidan.

The music for both OVA series is by Hiroaki Serizawa . In the first OVA, Endless Dream ( エ ン ド レ ス ・ ド リ ー ム ) and Tōku kara Miteite ( 遠 く か ら 見 て い て ) were used in the opening credits , and in the second Never Say Good Bye or Manatsu no Arisu ( 真 夏 の ア リ ス ). These were also written by Machiko Ryū and sung by Hiroko Moriguchi .

Dorama

TV Asahi broadcast an adaptation of the manga as a dorama from January 15, 2004 to March 11, 2004 . Akiyo Takikawa wrote the script for the production by Motohiro Matsumoto and Shizuo Sekiguchi. The main roles were played by Aya Ueto (Hiromi Oka) and Rio Matsumoto (Reika Ryūzaki). The music was composed by Norihito Sumitomo.

Video game

On December 22, 1993, Nippon Telenet released a video game about Ace o Nerae! For Super Famicom ! . In the game, in order to win the love of an older student, you have to defeat your opponent in tennis.
