Shin Kyong-nim (born April 6, 1936 in Ch'ungju in North Ch'ungch'ŏng Province ) is a South Korean poet .

Life

Shin Kyong-nim, born in 1936 in North Ch'ungch'ŏng Province, witnessed the liberation from Japanese colonial rule and the outbreak of the Korean War . He lived in his place of birth until he entered the university. His parents, who lived in humble circumstances, attached great importance to the education of their children, so that Shin Kyongnim started early with literary works e.g. B. by Lee Kwang-soo or Kim Tong-in , came into contact. In 1955 Shin went to Seoul and began studying English at Dongguk University .

After his debut with Schilfrohr in 1956, a period without poetry followed until 1965. He started a reading group with members of a student movement , but after one of them was arrested, he returned to his home village. It was not until 1965 that he returned to Seoul and resumed his poetic activity. In the poetry book Bauerntanz (1973) the joys and sorrows of the farmers in the country are reproduced. In Korea the work met with great interest. Shin continued to publish many poems that combined lyric and traditional folk songs in a harmonious way.

In 1984 he set up a research institute to study traditional Korean folk songs and their traces in modern poetry. Journey through the Korean folk songs as well as the books of poetry Let's Jump Over the Moon and The Path are from this time.
