Shira Haas ( Hebrew שירה האס; born May 11, 1995 in Hod Hasharon ) is an Israeli actress .

Life

Haas was born in 1995 in Israel as the youngest child of Tzabarim with Polish, Hungarian and Czech roots. She got enthusiastic about writing and the theater early on . She attended an art school in Tel Aviv , where she was hired by a casting director for her first film role in the drama Princess . Her portrayal of Adar earned her a nomination in the category Best Actress at the Ophir Award 2014 .

From 2013 to 2016 Haas played the role of Ruchami Weiss in the television series Shtisel . This was followed by roles in Natalie Portman's literary film adaptation A Tale of Love and Darkness , Niki Caro's Holocaust drama The Zoo Director's Wife and Garth Davis ' Bible adaptation of Maria Magdalena . For her role in Foxtrot , she was nominated again for an Ophir Award in 2017, this time in the category Best Supporting Actress .

In 2020, she took on the lead role of Esther “Esty” Shapiro in the Netflix miniseries Unorthodox .
