Shtisel ( Hebrew שטיסל) is an Israeli television series about the life of an ultra-Orthodox Jewish family in Jerusalem . The series is by Ori Elon and Yehonatan Indursky. So far, a total of 24 episodes have been published in 2 seasons. In German-speaking countries, the series can be seen on the online streaming service Netflix .

Akiva Shtisel is a bachelor who lives with his strict father Shulem. He lives in the Jerusalem suburb of Geula. His mother is dead, he starts working as a teacher and is looking for a wife to marry. He falls in love with the older Elisheva, a bank clerk, mother and widow of two, which, however, does not only meet with resistance in his family.

Shulem's daughter, Giti Weiss, has five children and was abandoned by her husband; he went underground in Argentina . She is now trying to find a job to support her family.

The series premiered on June 29, 2013. So far, two seasons have been produced. A third season is in preparation. The series is set to receive a US remake and is to be produced by Amazon . The rumored title of the remake is Emmis . The New York borough of Brooklyn is planned as the setting.
