Foluwashola "Shola" Ameobi (born October 12, 1981 in Zaria , Nigeria ) is an English - Nigerian football player . He played at Newcastle United for 14 years and holds the record for most substitutions in the Premier League . His younger brothers Tomi and Sammy are also professional footballers.

Career

Ameobi came to England with his parents when he was five. At the age of 13 he joined the Newcastle United Academy . He made his debut on the reserve team the day before his 18th birthday. On September 9, 2000, he made his debut in a home game against Chelsea and has since been part of the extended squad of Newcastle United.

In the summer of 2014 he moved to the Turkish TFF 1st Lig to Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor . He scored his first goal on September 19, 2014 with a penalty against Adanaspor , the game ended 1-1.

After his contract in Turkey was terminated at the end of December 2014, he joined the Premier League participant Crystal Palace a month later, for whom he was active until the end of the 2014/15 season.

National team

In the English U-21 national team , he came between 2000 and 2003 to a total of 20 missions in which he scored seven goals. In November 2012 he made his debut for the Nigerian national team .

Ameobi is an ambassador for Show Racism the Red Card . Together with Sol Campbell he recorded a video statement against racism and discrimination.
